Kooky and Cuckoo. That's bothered me ever since I was a kid. I guess I thought that if kooky is with K's and
O's, cuckoo should be
kookoo.
Never looked it up till now, though. Sure enough,
American Heritage supposes that "kooky" came from "cuckoo."
Nuts.

The cooking kook! I think I used to work with that guy. He would sit in the kitchen at the seafood restaurant where I worked and ask all the waitresses: You want fish with that?
