gargle
Does anybody gargle anymore?
It seems that, in the '70s and '80s, every other TV commercial and sitcom dad was dedicated to gargling. But I suspect the word has lost relevance. A comparative Google search supports my theory.
gargle = 840,000 hits
gargoyle = 2,160,000 hits

The word 'gargle' still provides more hits than the word 'fluoride rinse', which lists about 305,000 hits. I found this interesting because the number of different fluoride rinses available today far outweighs the number of traditional antiseptic gargling solutions.
Sorry it took so long to get your comment up. I've been sick. But not too sick to check yet another related term.
"Swish it around" garnered a surprising 1,810,000 hits.
Though I'm afraid to click any of the links to find out why ...
