I haven't seen it for years, but thinking about it still gags me to this day.
In "Revenge of the Sith," children in jedi training are called "younglings." When something bad happens to them, other characters exclaim in horror: Not the younglings! Not the younglings!!
How embarrassing for everyone involved ...

Maybe it's just a moment I'm having, but it seems as though the word should be set to music:
Younglings, there's no need to feel down / I said, younglings, pick yourself off the ground...
Yeah, I can totally see that. It would probably come up in the type of song that rhymes "love" with "above."
: )
I got just one question:
Huh?
Younglings?! What's so worst about "younglings"?
Is "plane" the worst TV word ever because some little guy used to say "Da plane, boss!"?
In the movie, it just totally came off as the writer's lame attempt to make "children" sound more interesting/magical/sci-fi-ish.
It just didn't work for me. I was actually embarrassed for the creators/actors.
"Jungling" (with an umlaut) is actually German for "youth" (at least in "The Magic Flute" -- don't know if it's current German). So I wasn't surprised to see "youngling" in the OED, "archaic" but amply attested from the year 900 into the 1800s (in Shelley and even later poets). I'd be surprised if you couldn't come up with a much, much worse movie word!
Interesting!!
And I've actually been trying to think of other bad movie words, but none have come to me. Maybe that's because so few bad movies are big enough to come onto my radar. So many filmmakers are bad, but so few of the bad ones get famous.
I never would have seen the "Sith" movie had I not seen "Star Wars" as a youngling ...
I think "sith" is pretty bad too! So that's two crappy words from that craptastic movie!
Yeah, what a corn factory.
That was basically my favorite line in the whole movie! I was quoting it for weeks whenever something bad happened around me.
..because it's stupid and ridiculous.
"Stupid and ridiculous" sums it up better than any words I found!
